The value of choosing fresh fibre

Fresh wood fibre is a material with distinct properties and long-term value. It’s sourced from forests that are actively managed for regeneration, biodiversity, and climate benefit. As a renewable raw material, it offers consistency, strength, and purity, qualities that are essential for producing high-performing paper and wood-based packaging.

But its value goes beyond production. Fresh fibre supports circular systems, contributes to carbon storage, and fully utilises the forest resource. It’s a choice rooted in both performance and environmental responsibility.

Rooted in renewable resources

Our fresh wood fibres come from forests carefully managed for long-term health and biodiversity. Every harvested area is replanted, and significant portions of land are set aside for conservation. This ensures that our raw material remains renewable, generation after generation.

We use the whole tree. The thickest parts become timber, while the thinner sections are used for paper and paperboard. Bark, branches, and sawdust are turned into bioenergy, powering our mills and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

What sets fresh fibre apart

Fresh fibres are sourced from forests and not previously used or recycled. This means they’re free from ink residues, fillers, and other contaminants that can affect quality and safety.

Compared to recycled fibres, fresh fibres — sometimes referred to as virgin fibres — are stronger, more flexible, and more consistent. They allow us to produce paperboard that performs reliably across every batch, with fewer production issues and tighter tolerances. These qualities are key to delivering safe, high-quality packaging and paper products.

Designed for demanding packaging

Our sustainable paperboards achieve the ideal balance of stiffness, smoothness, and flexibility by using specific short fibres in the outer layers and long fibres in the centre layers. This makes our paperboard products well-suited for folding, printing, and protecting contents, without cracking or compromising appearance.

Fresh fibre paperboard and containerboard are also lighter than recycled alternatives, offering the same strength with less material. And because they're free from contamination, they're safe for direct contact with food and sensitive products.

Circular by design

Fresh fibres are essential in sustaining the circular flow of fibres used in recycling. While we rely on fresh fibres for production, our paper and paperboard are fully recyclable and contribute high-quality fibres back into the loop, helping to sustain the fibre cycle over time.

Our fresh fibre products support this system by offering strong, clean fibres that can be reused multiple times. They’re circular by design, starting with a renewable raw material and ending as a valuable input for future products. This is how we ensure that every fibre not only performs today but also contributes to a more sustainable tomorrow.
