Our mills

Holmen Board and Paper operate four world-class mills in Sweden and the UK. Together, they form a fully integrated, resource-efficient, sustainable production network that turns renewable and recyclable wood fibres into paper and paperboard for customers worldwide.

Paper mills

Our two paper mills, Hallsta and Braviken, specialise in high-quality printing and publishing papers made from fresh wood fibres. Designed for efficiency and innovation, both mills combine modern technology with decades of papermaking experience to deliver consistent quality and performance.

Braviken paper mill

Braviken paper mill, located outside Norrköping, produces paper for magazines, books and direct mail. The mill uses fresh fibres sourced by nearby forests and the adjacent Holmen timber sawmill, creating a circular flow where materials are exchanged between facilities. It’s known for resource-efficient production and excellent transport links via road, rail and its own harbour.

  • Location: Norrköping, Sweden
  • Process: TMP
  • Products: SC paper, book paper, containerboard paper, LWU

Hallsta paper mill

Hallsta paper mill led Holmen’s development of speciality papers and remains a hub for innovation. Its two paper machines produce lightweight uncoated (LWU) and high-quality book and office papers, all made from 100 per cent fresh fibre. Residual materials are used efficiently throughout the process, ensuring resource-smart production and reliable performance. The mill also benefits from flexible transport options via road, rail and its own port.

Paperboard mills

Holmen’s paperboard mills in Iggesund and Workington produce premium paperboard for packaging and graphical applications. Together, they combine centuries of craftsmanship with integrated, fossil-free production based on renewable raw materials.

Iggesund Mill

With a history dating back to 1685, Iggesund Mill is one of the most advanced integrated pulp and paperboard mills in the world. It produces Invercote, Holmen’s premium paperboard made entirely from chemically produced cellulose fibres from sustainably managed forests. The integrated pulp and board production ensures traceability, efficiency and consistently high product quality.

  • Location: Iggesund, Sweden
  • Process: Sulphate pulp
  • Products: Multi-layered paperboard made from bleached chemical pulp (SBB)

Workington Mill in the UK is home to Incada, Holmen’s premium folding boxboard. The mill produces mechanical pulp on-site to provide stiffness and bulk, and uses purchased chemical pulp for strength and surface quality. Its efficient production system runs almost entirely on bioenergy, and its strategic coastal location enables smooth distribution to customers across Europe.

  • Process: TMP
  • Products: Multi-layered paperboard, surface layer of chemical pulp, core of mechanical pulp (FBB)
