Holmen Wood Products’ glulam business is set for further growth. Providing Braviken Sawmill with cutting equipment and a distribution warehouse will shorten delivery times to customers, while also reducing transport costs and the climate footprint of the products. The aim is to increase glulam sales to customers in southern Sweden.
With the acquisition of Martinsons in 2020, Holmen now has a significant share of the Swedish market for glulam.
Investing in cutting equipment and a distribution warehouse at Braviken Sawmill will enable Holmen Wood Products to strengthen its offering to builders’ merchants, which will include beams in standard lengths and precision-cut stock beams. All such beams are currently cut at Bygdsiljum Sawmill up in Västerbotten. This new investment will mean that the volumes for delivery to central and southern Sweden will now be shipped to Braviken, where they will be cut to the right length and then dispatched to customers.
“Being able to cut the beams in Braviken will bring faster deliveries to the customer, more cost-effective logistics and less of an environmental burden thanks to more efficient transport,” states Johan Padel, Senior Vice President Wood Products.
The cutting and lifting equipment and the distribution warehouse will be located in an unused building alongside Braviken Paper Mill for efficient work flows.
