Holmen is one of the largest forest owners and wood buyers in Sweden. We take responsibility for the ecocycle of the whole forest, from seed to harvest, and work in close partnership with private forest owners.

Holmen manages the forest actively and sustainably. As well as being a stable source of revenue for Holmen, the forest brings major climate benefits by capturing
and storing carbon dioxide and reducing the need for fossil raw materials.

74 % of the Group’s capital is employed in the Forest business area.

Future-smart forests

We manage the forest actively and sustainably to make sure it grows optimally, giving us the best raw material. Forestry creates prosperity, jobs and a confident future for Sweden, while also bringing major benefits for local communities.

Actively managed forest is good for the climate. The young, growing trees absorb more carbon dioxide than the older ones and when the time is right, we harvest a renewable raw material capable of replacing fossil material.
