Code of Conduct and policies

Holmen’s Code of Conduct, policies and guidelines clarify and emphasise the requirements and expectations we have of Holmen’s employees. Together with the legislation in the country in question, these steering documents guide Holmen's actions in various areas.

We have a holistic approach to responsible business and our work draws on the UN Global Compact. We see it as natural to support its ten principles on human rights, social and environmental responsibility, and anti-corruption.

Henrik Sjölund
President and CEO of Holmen

The CEO is responsible for Holmen’s Code of Conduct, policies and guidelines. These are decided by the group management and updated every third year.

Holmen’s Code of Conduct, policies and guidelines clarify and emphasise the requirements and expectations we have of Holmen’s employees. Together with the legislation in the country in question, these steering documents guide Holmen's actions in various areas.

Holmen's Code of Conduct

Holmen supports the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, the eight core conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the OECD’s guidelines for multinational enterprises. Based on these principles, the Code of Conduct provides guidance in the context of work day to day and clearly sets out what every employee can expect from their colleagues in terms of business ethics, data protection, human rights, working conditions and the environment.

The Code of Conduct applies to all employees in the Holmen Group. Business partners are urged to act in line with the Code of Conduct, and Holmen takes it into account when selecting partners. The Code of Conduct is a wide-ranging but not exhaustive document. Holmen’s policies and other policy documents provide further guidance on how the different areas are to be handled.

Supplier Code of Conduct and supplier follow-up

As a signatory to the UN Global Compact, Holmen has undertaken to uphold and respect human rights in our sphere of influence. Since suppliers fall within this sphere, it is important to set clear requirements for them on social, ethical and environmental responsibility. The Code of Conduct covers all the areas encompassed by the Global Compact, and is included in all new supplier contracts.

One of the purposes of the Code of Conduct is to improve our environmental footprint and conditions for everyone working in Holmen’s value chain.

We employ an external partner, EcoVadis, to evaluate and follow up supplier compliance with our Code of Conduct in the areas of human rights, health and safety, the environment, business ethics and purchasing. The evaluation is tailored to the size of the supplier in terms of turnover and number of employees, and the supplier’s exposure to risk in terms of its geographical presence.
