Holmen is one of the biggest forest owners in Sweden and the growing forest is the basis of our business. We are part of the ecocycle from seedling to plank, where the raw material is refined into everything from wood for climate-smart buildings to renewable packaging, magazines and books.
The co-location of the paper mill and the sawmill enables great synergies that benefit both the production and the environment. The sawmill supplies the paper mill with wood chips for pulp production, and in return they get hot water to make steam for the drying kilns. Residual bark, sawdust and dry wood shavings is used for energy production at the paper mill or for district heating at the nearby heating plant.
Bråviken bay is more than 50 kilometres long and runs from Arkösund on the coast to Pampusfjärden and Lindö outside Norrköping. Lake Glan runs into Bråviken via Norrköping and Bråviken itself ends in Bosöfjärden. The area includes Bråviken marine nature reserve, the biggest nature reserve in Östergötland, which covers much of the Arkösund archipelago with its hundreds of islands and skerries. The area is rich in flora and fauna, on land and in the water.
