Applications
Food-safe packaging
Inverform is a Solid Bleached Board (SBB) designed for sustainable food trays and ready-made meal packaging. Its excellent formability, high stiffness, and grammage advantage also make it suitable for cutlery and other types of packaging applications. The paperboard is taint and odour neutral, and can be coated, extruded or laminated to make it suitable for microwave, freezer and oven use.

Sustainable food trays
Food trays made of Inverform have a substantially lower carbon footprint than regular plastic trays, as Inverform is manufactured at Holmen’s Iggesund Mill, Sweden, from fresh wood fibres from sustainably managed forests. The mill holds chain-of-custody certifications and is self-sufficient in energy. The trays themselves provide all the advantages of plastic, but are a more sustainable alternative and offer better recyclability than fossil-based materials.
Technical data
Inverform is an uncoated, multiply SBB made from chemical pulp. Due to its combination of strength and flexibility, the board can be formed into food trays and other applications of different shapes. The fibre composition varies for each layer in the construction of Inverform. The fibres are selected based on shape and length and are treated differently to tailor the paperboard construction for its intended use.

Enhancements
Inverform offers great visual appeal and is available with several different barrier coatings for added resistance to moisture, grease and heat – Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Polyethylene (PE), and Bio E, a barrier that is approved for industrial composting. Inverform trays also comply with FDA and other food hygiene packaging regulations.
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) barriers provide good sealability and act as an excellent oxygen and fat barrier. They are also extremely temperature-resistant and highly suitable for applications such as PET-coated dual-ovenable food trays.
Polyethylene (PE)
Polyethylene (PE) coated paperboard is suitable for disposable cups or packaging for frozen foods, meat products, and chocolate. The PE barrier provides a simple yet efficient way to heat-seal end products.
Bio-E
Our Bio E barrier is based on renewable resources and adapted for organic recovery through composting or anaerobic digestion. The material is suitable for applications where biodegradability is desired.
